Summer School Age Program

During the summer months, ICC offers a full-day, Monday through Friday program between the hours of  7 a.m. to 6 pm.  Registration for the summer school age program usually begins in mid-February.

With an elongated schedule, children spend lots of time outside and in free play. In the summer, children experience fun adventures (a.k.a. field trips!) Field trips occur weekly or twice per week based on interest and scheduling. Our Summer School Age program visits The Columbus Zoo, Whetstone Library, The Columbus Museum of Art, COSI, and the Columbus Common Fountains.  Local movie theaters such as The Gateway may offer age-appropriate movies that are integrated into the curriculum.  For example, for The Gateway’s “Books to Film” series, the children read the books and then walked to The Gateway to watch the films.

Working towards literacy goals, Summer School Age children are encouraged to engage in dramatic play to write, produce and act in their very own stage plays! The children create the plot, write the story, design props, choose costumes, and perform for teachers, ICC children, and families.

Parents are encouraged to share their talents or activities with the Summer School Age program. We have had parents introduce us to their pets, home-made board games, baking recipes, hands-on art projects and more!
